Interactive Story Hour

with author Renee Emerson

Join us for an activity-based reading from Renee Emerson's middle-grade novel Why Silas Miller Must Learn to Ride a Bike, a story that explores the nature of grief through a boy's adventures over the summer in his grandparent's rural neighborhood. Activities will be related to the book, and will include map-making, group story-telling, creating characters, learning about elements of story, and how to become an author.

- Listen to parts of Renee's novel
- Discuss bicycle safety
- Participate in map-drawing and story-writing activities
- Learn about storytelling and how to become an author

Kids will get to:

Renee Emerson is a homeschooling mom of five, born and raised in west Tennessee. A part-time online adjunct professor of English with her M.F.A. from Boston University, she is the author of several poetry books, most recently Church Ladies (Fernwood Press, forthcoming May 2023). Why Silas Miller Must Learn to Ride a Bike is her first middle-grade novel. When not doing the dishes or trying to get her two year old to wear clothes, she can be found writing poetry, walking outdoors, and reading aloud to her kids.
